City of Arts

Houston is a diverse city full of artists, musicians and entertainers. It’s one of those places where you really have to TRY to be bored. This blog will mention some (but not all) artistic venues worth a visit.

If your forte is classical music, there are countless venues such as the Houston Grand Opera, Houston Symphony, The Heights Opera House, Ars Lyrica with the Hobby center and also the music facilities at Rice University (Stude Concert Hall) and University of Houston (Moores Opera House). Featuring all sorts of tasteful genres, concertos, operas, operettas and solo concerts, these venues are gems that present some of the most established or upcoming classical performers.

For your Off Broadway or theater fix, we recommend the Hobby Center, Theater Under the Stars and the Alley Theatre. For a good laugh, Improv!, which is home to Houston’s ComedySpotrz is the place to go.

Finally, we suggest the Miller Outdoor Theater. Featuring a wide variety of musicals, operas, concerts, screenings and dance recitals, one can enjoy the free entertainment in the middle of Hermann park. Bring a blanket and a picnic, and enjoy the show!
